C\u2019est avec une profonde tristesse que nous avons appris que Christian Brun, notre ami, Pr\u00e9sident de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration et le Secr\u00e9taire-ex\u00e9cutif de l\u2019UPM, est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 lors d\u2019un accident de la route dans la p\u00e9ninsule acadienne. Comme d\u2019habitude Christian se dirigeait \u00e0 une r\u00e9union de p\u00eacheurs. Nos plus sinc\u00e8res condol\u00e9ances \u00e0 sa famille, ses proches et amis de la grande famille de l\u2019UPM pour cette \u00e9norme perte pour nous tous.<\/em><\/p>\n

It is with great sadness that we learned that our dear friend Christian Brun, President of the Federation and Executive-Secretary of the MFU\u00a0 in a road accident in north-eastern New Brunswick. Christian was headed, as he often was, to a fishermen\u2019s meeting. Our deepest sympathy to his family, all those close to him in the extended MFU family and beyond for this enormous loss to us all.<\/p>\n

\n In early October 2014 I was attending a
\n fisheries meeting in St. Andrews New
\n Brunswick. Christian was there, as he
\n always seemed to be at such meetings,
\n thoughtful and incisive. One evening a
\n group of us sat outside around a fire \u2013
\n we were staying at the Algonquin Hotel
\n and the weather was fine \u2013 singing
\n songs on borrowed guitars until we
\n were told to shut things down. That
\n didn\u2019t put an end to the party of course.
\n We went back to somebody\u2019s room, a
\n smaller group, but hardy. Christian
\n fished out a bottle of some liquid that he
\n shared around, and I put some music on from my phone, Manu Chao. If that wasn\u2019t
\n the start of something. Christian started regaling us with his knowledge of African
\n music. Before I knew it he was scribbling names of artists and groups I had to listen
\n to on a scrap of hotel stationery. He filled both sides of the page, twenty or more
\n names in his distinctive handwriting. Most of them obscure by North American
\n standards, but Christian knew them all by heart, and took great pleasure in telling us
\n about each one.<\/p>\n

I will miss him very much.<\/p>\n
