Christian was headed, as he often was, to a fishermen\u2019s meeting. Our deepest sympathy to his family, all those close to him in the extended MFU family and beyond for this enormous loss to us all.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Nous avons re\u00e7u des hommages \u00e9mouvants \u00e0 Christian de partout \u00e0 travers le pays que nous voulons partager avec vous en son honneur. Christian was there, as he<br \/>\n always seemed to be at such meetings,<br \/>\n thoughtful and incisive. One evening a<br \/>\n group of us sat outside around a fire \u2013<br \/>\n we were staying at the Algonquin Hotel<br \/>\n and the weather was fine \u2013 singing<br \/>\n songs on borrowed guitars until we<br \/>\n were told to shut things down. That<br \/>\n didn\u2019t put an end to the party of course.<br \/>\n We went back to somebody\u2019s room, a<br \/>\n smaller group, but hardy. Christian<br \/>\n fished out a bottle of some liquid that he<br \/>\n shared around, and I put some music on from my phone, Manu Chao. If that wasn\u2019t<br \/>\n the start of something. Christian started regaling us with his knowledge of African<br \/>\n music. Before I knew it he was scribbling names of artists and groups I had to listen<br \/>\n to on a scrap of hotel stationery. He filled both sides of the page, twenty or more<br \/>\n names in his distinctive handwriting.
